You, Me and The Apocalypse Opening

For a tiny cottage in a tiny town, this place sure will see lots of baggage. A group of obnoxious friends struggle to survive the Stag Weekend from hell, as a deer-stalking expedition in the Scottish Highlands quickly turns messier than expected.

Journalist Ozzie Graham is skeptical when he investigates a support group for oddballs who think they have been abducted by aliens -- yet the more he learns, the more confused, intrigued, and seduced he becomes.

Comedy drama about the final days of mankind. Mild-mannered Slough Bank Manager Jamie Mathew Baynton is in a rut - albeit a very organized one - consumed by grief for his missing wife.

All of that soon changes, however, when he's arrested on suspicion of cyber terrorism and realizes that, somehow, he must have an identical twin, and that his mum Paula Pauline Quirke has some serious explaining to do.

Halfway around the world in New Mexico, unassuming librarian Rhonda Jenna Fischer enters a maximum-security prison for a crime she didn't commit, and reluctantly falls under the wing of unhinged white supremacist Leanne Megan Mullally.

These are just some of the eclectic and seemingly unconnected characters whose lives will start to intersect in the most unexpected ways as news breaks that a comet is Written by simonwarn.

Brilliant opening episode, to what promises to be, a brilliant series of television. This has been advertised heavily on UK TV in recent weeks, and after watching the opening episode, it seems the hype is well deserved.

Sure, we've all seen the scenario before, asteroid heading to Earth to kill every last one of us, but never set in Slough England before!!.

The cast is very strong, some big names mixed with some lesser know names, and i can honestly say, everyone in the opener nailed it.

If the show continues as it started, You, Me and the apocalypse looks set to be a very good addition to the end of the world genre!!.

Favourite Comedy Stuff. Some Great TV Shows. The cast is an interesting mix of British and American actors who for the most part are great together.

Some of the characters begin as blatant stereotypes, but we do see character development throughout most of them that makes them more accessible by the season hopefully not series finally.

There are some distractingly terrible American accents. One character in particular, but thankfully she is not a lead character as much as an occasional annoyance.

Don't over-analyze it and you're sure to have a good time. This is a series about the end of life on Earth because of a meteor that concludes?

It is basically a satire. The sort of use of humor that has lots of irony, exaggeration, while tries to ridicule, to expose and criticize people's stupidity and vices, politics and of course religion.

It has some maybe funny moments, but it is black comedy, sometimes even gritty. It tries to mix too many elements though which, especially in the 10th and final episode where the supernatural becomes more apparent, make the whole series ludicrous.

I don't want to spoil you but you will not get IMO a satisfying conclusion. You will hope for more, during the course of the show, but I think you will end-up empty handed, or maybe holding the "usual" last scene twist in such sort of movies or TV-series.

The cast is capable and the direction adequate but there are things to be desired. Overall: I don't regret for the 10 minutes episodes I watched in 2 days, but the conclusion could have been with more substance and not going for the twist-y easy way out.

I love the cast of this show. It has some of the best actors in the business. For example, Megan Mullally is almost unrecognizable in this show and was perfectly cast as a white-trashy prisoner who plays her role with a breathtaking ease.

I love how different this role is for her in comparison to other shows I've seen her in. Then there is Jenna Fischer who plays the sweet and innocent role, which, to be quite honest, is something I've grown quite bored of from her as an actress.

She's a great actress, don't get me wrong-- I'm just tired of the sweet and innocent roles.

Next there is Rob Lowe. The overall show is pretty good. I love the concept, I love the actors, I love the writing. But there is still something that is sort of off for me as a viewer.

I find myself bored watching the show sometimes and that is unusual for me. Perhaps there isn't enough action. But I will still continue to watch it to see where it goes.

With a cast like that, I cannot "not" watch it. Gin-ster 30 January I don't usually watch sit-coms because of the way they consist of dialogues clearly written by jokewriters, so I find it hard to get "into" them - I can see the "wizard behind the curtain.

I wondered how this could possibly work as a comedy. I was pleasantly surprised to find that somehow or other, it is very engaging.

It may not be a documentary about what would really happen as "the end" approaches, so I stopped assessing whether or not there was any realism.

And the cast is also very engaging; even though the structure includes jumping around a lot in location and storyline, the characters held my attention, i.

I wanted to know what happens to them. I attribute this to excellent casting, acting and writing. I have only seen the first episode and am looking forward to more.

I watched this show on demand, which gives a different experience to watching it once per week. For this particular show, I think binge watching like this was better.

Even though e are told the ending sort of right at the start, even in the last episode you couldn't guess how they would end up there and who exactly would survive.

My favourite things about this show were 1. It was just the right length. Some shows have 24 episodes which could fit into 10, resulting in lots of filler.

This was not the case here, it never felt slow or unnecessary. The way the relationships and links between the characters grew over the course of the show.

The fact that this showed us the effect on people in various parts of the world and different walks of life. Most apocalyptic shows usually focus on America and forget about everyone else!

It must be difficult to act two completely different characters and make them both convincing. Unfortunately a few small details let the show down, which is why I only gave 8 stars.

The "miracle" that happened in the final episode and Frankie hearing voices. These were just a bit too supernatural for me.

The relationship between Dave and Paula felt a bit forced, either done for comic effect or as a way of shoehorning Dave into the "family" 3.

I find it slightly unbelievable that Ariel could impersonate Jamie so well that even his best friend and his mum were totally convinced.

Given that they hadn't actually met until a few weeks ago, although Ariel had been following him and tracking his online presence etc, it just seems unlikely Finally, the ending.

I've yet to decide whether I loved it or hated it. There are a lot of open questions at the end that I would like answers to, but I have a feeling there won't be a second season, so these questions will remain unanswered!

Just finished watching the apparently last episode and WOW. Just wow. I feel embarrassed for watching all of it, like I've been taken in by a silly joke.

Come on, w t actual f was that all about?? I put up with ridiculously poor accents, quirky sic acting, outrageous plot twists and turns and religious bullshizzle, all for an ending that is frankly urine-poor.

I mean, why? Was it some sort of 'clever' thing designed to make people think? Or something to be obsessed over and talked about like those stupid numbers in 'lost'?

All in all it's a flopping, flipping pile of fail and I resent the excitement I had each week waiting for the next episode. Worst of all, to add insult to injury - killing Rob Lowe!

You guys should hang your heads in shame. The cast were great though, I don't want to make them feel bad. There are endless questions left pointlessly unanswered at the end but I am not obsessive enough, nor do i care enough now to ever think about this disappointing steamy heapy ever again.

Simply put, this is an awesome show that was impeccably cast, written, directed and produced. Y,M and the A has a sublime blend of all that makes a program great.

I am always pleasantly surprised to see what direction the show will take and I have to say, I found myself quite emotionally taken with the character development.

My friends and family have dubbed me as over-critical when I comment on any particular show, series, movie etc. It's too good to stop and whoever wrote it is definitely smart enough to keep it going.

Not many dramas can include so many genres done so well, make them interlink so well plus make each show an improvement on the preceding one.

There's political, romantic, dramatic, humour, science fiction, religious, scenic, scientific, glamour, sociological and psychological and all done brilliantly.

You just don't know what's coming next. Plus it's a tough call to pick who's the standout actor, most of the leads are equally brilliant.

Just an excellent production. One last thing, as well as sophisticated and imaginative it's earthy, plus even incorrect, the racist, the soldier and the clergy are painted with sympathy.

It's great. Disregard the naysayers, this show is top notch comedy. Rob Lowe as the Devil's Advocate Don't forget this is supposed to be wacky funny, just go with it, take the ride!

Think CAMP, 1. Something that provides sophisticated, knowing amusement, as by virtue of its being artlessly mannered or stylized, self-consciously artificial and extravagant, or teasingly ingenuous and sentimental.

A person who adopts a teasing, theatrical manner. Also camp it up. To speak or behave in a coquettishly playful or extravagantly theatrical manner.

It all boils down to individual preference, of course. I absolutely adore this series, it might not be uproarious comedy but it's definitely incredibly amusing which is equally as entertaining as any gut wrenching laughter.

My two cents. Nice day all! I absolutely love this show. It is very funny and has lots of entertaining sup plots.

There have been many twists to the storyline too. The most interesting twist to the story so far I've seen up to ep. It's always easy to tell which twin he is because he manages to portray many differences between the two characters.

Megan Mullally is almost unregognisable, she plays such a different character to Karen in Will and Grace.

I can't wait to see how this series ends. For example, I can't decide whether that's Jamie or Ariel in the bunker in the opening credits.

Maybe I'm over thinking it but it could be either of them. As long as one goes in with the understanding that this is an off-beat comedy about the end of the world, the tone of the show fits quite well.

Perhaps American audiences might find the British stereotyping of Americana kind of strange. The comedic elements rely heavily on irony and social commentary, so if those are not your thing then this is not the series for you.

Most of the characters are well performed; I find many of them engaging. The ensemble reminds me a bit of a Coen brothers creation.

Recommended to try at least the first episode and see if this is your kettle of tea. That is all. Spoilers below -- you have been warned!

Promising start, engaging middle, much too long in bits and a really atrocious ending. If I could rate bits of it, I would say the 10 stars for the first couple episodes, down to 0 stars for the last.

Jamie Mathew Baynton is the Son-O-God as evidenced by his parting of the Thames , but he's left outside the bunker doing a "red sea" on the Thames is do-able Ariel Mathew Baynton suddenly feels he's surrounded by weirdos seriously?

Who's in the box who thinks the monkey is pure evil? Why the compulsion for good people to kill innocent people along the way the guards at the prison, the tow truck driver.

What, exactly was the point of the whole story, besides seeing Dianna Rigg again? Like a previous poster mentioned Fun at the start, waiting for the big twist at the end, which is really not a great big twist -- Areal was the cockroach in this distopian apocalypse story.

No surprise to see him there at the end. It feels like the writers, upon hearing that there would be no second season who could possibly see THAT coming?

The series has terrific characterizations, a brilliantly complicated plot, high drama and laugh out loud humour.

Best of all it has pace. The plot develops at speed and things happen, lots of them, in every episode.

There are none of the soulful looks into the distance or lingering landscapes, nor the endless repetition, that so many TV dramas seem to require these days.

In those shows, it is as if they need to fill the time to eek out more episodes and sell more time for commercials. With You Me and the Apocalypse, it is as if there is so much to say, they don't waste a minute on anything you could describe as "filling".

I must also mention the dialogue and the actions of the characters; people say and do what they would say in real life.

You never shout at the screen, yelling "WHY would they do that?! The plot is an interesting mix of apocalyptic Armageddon, religion, with hints some more subtle that others of the supernatural.

The story-line is fast-paced and interesting with many twists along the way. The biggest of which in the last 2 seconds of the series finally.

The cast is an interesting mix of British and American actors who for the most part are great together.

Some of the characters begin as blatant stereotypes, but we do see character development throughout most of them that makes them more accessible by the season hopefully not series finally.
